Can anyone tell me how to access and adjust the brakes on a 917.257720, 917.257711 Craftsman GT6000?
The owners manual shows a different device than what is on my tractor. Currently I have three of these
but have never had to adjust the brakes. Newer models have a rod, spring, lever, stop nuts that adjust with brake pedal
engaged to 1 3/4 inch. These GT6000's have a shaft attached to a loop around the external (from transaxle) drum.
When the brake pedal is depressed the loop tightens around the drum.

Thanks: but not even close to the way mine looks. I've had other lawn tractors that resemble these on Google but the GT6000's I have are different.

External band brakes are fairly common on full size tractors
The rod that pulls the brake tight will have an adjustment at one end
If not then it has no adjustment and you just replace the friction material when it stops working .

Thanks. Space is very limited. I could feel the stop-nut but access is questionable.
Will try.

You'll get it if you appreciate stopping.

You could always do what one of customers daugther did and that run squarely into Gazebo. But of course that was a sudden stop. At least she was wearing her's double barrel sling shot so they stayed where they were to stay.;)
