I recently acquired a lawn tractor with a 12.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. When I got the mower it had gas mixed in with the oil so I drained it, and put fresh oil in. I checked the float in the carburater and it wasn't stuck. So I put it back together and mower ran for a little while then went to turn it over and it was just puffing out smoking from the muffler. I then saw gas dripping out of the valve plate so I'm guessing gas is in the cylinder again. How does this happen and how do you fix it?

More than likely the float needle is not seating properly. If you replace the needle and seat, you should solve your problem.

If the problem continues after doing as Rivets suggested... put a fuel shut off in the fuel line between the tank and the carb... then when you turn the engine off Also turn the fuel off... :smile:KennyV

Thanks, is the needle and seat inexpensive?

Yes, just take your model and type numbers to your repair shop and you'll be in business.
