Doesn't start

I replaced the ring gear on flywheel on a 13.5 hp Briggs and Stratton and now all it does is roll over and backfires through exhaust. Shear key is good. What do I do now?

Posting the Engine numbers would help so those here can lookup you engine.

And you only replaced the ring gear and not the complete flywheel, right?

I found out the problem. I didn't have the piston at top dead center so it made the timing off
