Hi All, This mower looked barely used when I bought it last year. I've been mowing my 1/4 acre yard weekly for the past 4 months-no steep grades or heavy brush. The mower has gradually developed a clattering sound when I'm in motion and cutting. I can quiet it down when I push on the clutch/brake pedal. Then as soon as I let the pedal up, the clattering starts and the pedal shakes while the mower moves either forward or backward. Also, when I select "gears" 3 and above, the mower doesn't move any faster until I shove my foot under the pedal and pull up on it.
I'm thinking first, a belt is slipping and second, a main pulley needs tightening/grease or is going bad. Is there a clutch pedal adjustment or a pulley adjustment. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated, before I start taking it apart, rather than after it is in pieces. 8^) Thanks

You have picked up some crud which is stuck in one of the pulleys
or
A lump has fallen out of the belt
or
one of the idler pulleys has collapsed
or
The clutch pivot bolt is loose.
