Stumped - Poulan Pro Snow Blower

When going through everything, I installed one of those red fuel filters in the new fuel line. Could that be the problem?

Stumped - Poulan Pro Snow Blower

There is a fuel cutoff valve. Fuel was running out of the new fuel line pretty well, but I'll check it out.

Reset the governor.....Never heard of that! How do I do it? There is no more surging, but it will still only run right on 3/4 choke.

Stumped - Poulan Pro Snow Blower

Hello All - A friend moved south and gave me this beautiful, hardly used unit. It has never run quite right. The rpm would surge up and down and it would only run on choke. I removed carb and cleaned everything. Still the same thing. I replaced with a new carb, plug, and fuel line. It runs...

    Kohler Command CV14S No Start

Picked up a Simplicity Broadmoor 1692416 free from the neighbor. Has spark and fuel. Turning the key does not turn over the mower. If I jump hot side of battery to hot lead on starter it will turn over and produce spark but won't start. Am I on the right track to be looking at the solenoid...

    Click Behind Dash No Crank

Thank you for all of the GREAT advice. With my multi-meter, I carefully went through the steps Rivets described. When everything checked out, I zeroed in on the starter. The right side mounting bolt is not easy to remove. Ended up getting a 1/4 drive 1/2" socket on the bolt with an...

    Click Behind Dash No Crank

Thank you, Rivets. Battery tests good. I tried to jump the solenoid with jumper wire, still nothing. Starter?

    Click Behind Dash No Crank

All connections are clean and secure. Wire from solenoid to starter was loose at the solenoid. Battery new. Only a clunk from the solenoid when key turned to start position. No sound or movement from the starter.

    Click Behind Dash No Crank

Simplicity Broadmoor 1693600 with Briggs Vanguard 18 V-Twin 350777. 553 hours. Parked the mower last week, running fine. No start today. Have fuel, but only spark from 1 cylinder for 3-4 seconds while cranking then no spark. Battery 100%. Now starter does not move. There is a click behind the...

    Oil Through Air Filter

Update: Luckily, I was able to find the correct Briggs carb.......Used! Put it on, changed the oil, and.................. "Ta-Da!!!!" New life!! Thank you so much bertsmobile1 and scrubcated10. You are the best!

    Oil Through Air Filter

With oil in the valve cover should I be considering head gasket leaking?
  19. B

    Oil Through Air Filter

As I am taking things apart, I noticed that the valve cover gasket on the side with the tube to the fuel pump is pushed out. Valve cover is tight. Excessive blow-by? I'm not dismissing the problem with the float needle on the knock off carb. The bowl doesn't come off! Time to bite the...

    Oil Through Air Filter

Thank you again to all of you who helped me through my no-start problem that was finally solved as a bad fuel solenoid. Briggs 350777 Vanguard 18hp. Runs strong, but a LOT of oil running out of the air cleaner. So much that it is dripping on the exhaust. I'm frustrated because I just put all...

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Circling back on this one. Full disclosure. So, I was struggling with the no start problem again. After going through EVERYTHING (including gas tank removal/cleaning, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, plugs, valve adjustment, etc. etc. etc.) I began to zero in on the carb. What did I find? THE...

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Here is my update. I finally replaced the fuel pump and fuel lines, including the pulse line to the valve cover. After sitting for a week, it started right up! Not sure if it was a failed 2 year old Briggs fuel pump or losing vacuum through a weak fuel line(s). This was definitely a journey...

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Getting back to this unit since we had a snowstorm today. Cranked forever to get it started. Fuel from cleaned out tank to filter through new line is low flowing. Fuel will not come out of filter unless I disconnect line and hold it down low. Then gas trickles out slowly. No gas getting to...

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

I'm sorry I have been away and not reported back. Got involved with a water pump and a failed rear differential on my truck! It's a journey...... I will try to get a better look at the choke an if it is closing completely. Tried to start yesterday and took forever. Popped several times while...

What would I do besides making sure the valves are adjusted properly?

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

I really appreciate everyone's patience with this. Visually, it looks like the choke is closing. I adjusted the cable back, and it does seem to start easier. Not sure if the easier start was from the cable adjustment or because I started it about 4 hours ago. It is -15 wind chill here in WI...

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

I have tried with the cap off. Where would I look for a vacuum leak? Valve cover gaskets, and possibly the pump not getting good vacuum?
  32. B

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

You may be on to something here. When I ran out of battery and hooked up my charger to try to start, the engine turned over faster and started quickly.
  33. B

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Going to put it back together with a new fuel line from tank to filter, and see where it's at.

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Update: Removed the fenders and the tank. Tank was surprisingly clean (my wife was not too happy with the gas smell in the house from bringing the tank through to the basement!). Washed it out anyway. Tube and elbow clear. Maybe the fuel pump?

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Well.....Wishful thinking. Went out tonight in the -20 wind chill and.......Cranked forever and took forever to "catch". Back to the drawing board..Grrr

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

When a took the fuel line off on the tank side of the filter, hardly any fuel came out. I blew out the line/backwards to tank and gas came gushing out (gravity). I put on a new filter and it started in about 1/2 a crank. Go figure. This engine has a fuel pump.

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

SOLVED! Clogged fuel line from the tank to the filter. Amazing how easily this thing starts when it has gas!!!

Briggs 18 HP Hard to Start

Briggs 350777 Replaced plugs, coils, adjusted valves. Have to turn it over for 20-30 seconds to get it to start. Once started runs fantastic. What am I missing? Some kind of fuel problem? Replaced fuel pump a couple of years ago.

New Coils and Plugs, Now Hard to Start!

Used the business card to gap the coils. Still hard to start, like 20-30 seconds of cranking. Double check the valves and they were LOOSE! Adjusted the valves and STARTED! Runs great. Thanks to all. Mechanic Mark is da maaaaaaann!!

New Coils and Plugs, Now Hard to Start!

Used the business card trick for the coils. Still started hard, like 20-30 seconds of cranking. Double checked valve clearance. LOOSE! Adjusted valves and.........STARTS!! Thank you to all!! Mechanic Mark is da maaaaaaaaaaaaan!

New Coils and Plugs, Now Hard to Start!

Good news and bad news to report. Good news is that it will start. Bad news is that it takes 20-30 seconds or more of cranking. Before replacing coils, unit would start in 5-10 seconds.
  43. B

New Coils and Plugs, Now Hard to Start!

So, you're thinking that I do not have enough gap on the coils? Adjusted the valves to .006 prior to replacing coils and started easily. Am I taking that damn shroud off again?......GRRRRRRR I did use OEM coils. 350777 1152-E1 99102111

New Coils and Plugs, Now Hard to Start!

Replaced both coils and 2 new Champion RC12YC plugs. Runs GREAT, and no more pop pop pop when increasing the rpm when hot. BUT.....Engine used to start easily when cold before replacing coils and plugs. Now difficult to start. Turns over easily. What changed????????
