    Honda HRR216 Circlip Removal

They are on the HRR216 rear axle holding the adjustment level in place. It needs to be removed from inside of the frame. Unfortunately, this circlip needs to be removed to get the adjustment housing removed to lube the bushing that is housed within the adjustment lever. I have used straight and...

    Honda HRR216 Circlip Removal

I need some thoughts and opinions on removing the inner 25 mm circlips. Every time I remove the clips I fight with them for what seems like forever. Today, I just gave up and walked away. I have several brands of snap ring pliers and they do fine on the outside 13mm circlips, but that inner one...

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

My guess is they are already working on one. With California adopting the elimination in sales of small gas power engines and who knows what other states may follow, Honda will need to revise its market strategy or it could take the path of the once great giant - Sears.

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Too bad Honda came out with the newer HRN because with the bushing issues involving the HRR model, perhaps we could have applied to Honda for a joint “Grant” to fund this endeavor. Only kidding.

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Thanks Civic for the update. I am glad to hear that the old transmission was in good shape. Your information will keep my focus on the bushings. Also, you are right about the Honda mower’s cutting ability. As for battery operated mowers, my neighbor got one several months ago and it cuts the...

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Not to go too far off topic, but what is the life expectancy for a battery operated mower? Repair facilities? My mowers with normal routine service will last me around 20 years and the amount of gas for cutting 1/2 acre per year is fairly cheap. Will battery operated mowers be similar as for...

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Like you, don’t want to keep throwing money at this problem. My thought is to give it a good cleaning and lube each year and hope for the best. I have gotten the steps down to about an hour to clean both sides as long as the circlips cooperate. I was using my lift table and small car jacks to...

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Did you remove the adjusters to check the bushing and the axle that was covered by the bushing? In most cases, that is where the issue is. For me, the bushing was completely dry. Changed with new adjusters and bushings, lubed the bushing and it works like new.

    HRR216SDA only runs with choke

Bertsmobile is right about the screw in studs to keep gaskets and the the auto choke in place. Depended on the Honda model, Honda sometimes uses a lot of gaskets. Look at Youtube. A number of videos can be found on the removal, cleaning and reinstall of a Honda carburetor.

    HRR216SDA only runs with choke

I would definitely pull the carburetor for a thorough cleaning. If it were me, I would just buy a new OEM carburetor since they are so cheap. My HRR216 was $14. I would check out the choke system while you have the carb off. 90% of Honda issues are fuel related.

Rear belt guard on Honda HRR216K9VKA is not like video

Yes, you are correct about the video and the version you have. It can be done but different steps are needed. For one the transmission spring needs to be undone and that will allow you use a long handle screw drive to rotate the transmission to remove the belt. The Honda service manual explains...

    Thermowax Change Out

I do not have the HRX manual, mine is for HRR and covers three versions. Not much difference between the three version in the manual, but one difference is the carburetor and gaskets needed. The other difference is the transmission and some related parts are slightly different and some...

    Thermowax Change Out

Quick bolt on. Takes about 20 minutes. Take picture before so you know where to reconnect the governor rod and spring. No big deal.

    Thermowax Change Out

As part of my earlier post, I mentioned about a sticking float and/or add the possibility that the needle is not seating correctly. This would fit the leaking gas. I would order a new carburetor ( just put one on my HRR) which was $18 and change. Not worth trying to find out if any part is not...

    Thermowax Change Out

Interesting. My generator (manual choke) needs to have the choke wide open on a very warm day for it start. Honda mowers with auto choke systems work well, even in warm temperatures. So it does not cold start with the choke door closed but will start with the door open. If this is the case, is...

Honda hrn 216vka run out of adjustment on smart drive

Did you have this same issue with the original belt? Was the replacement belt OEM? The only negative information I am hearing is that some are reporting the belt has overheated and needed to be replaced. Not sure what is causing this to occur. I know three people using the new HRN with no...

Honda Rear Wheels Dust Cover Configurations

I just changed out my rear adjusters and bushings and I did not noticed anything different, but then, I was not looking very closely at each part. I normally take each side apart and place the parts in order so they go back in the right order. If something gets messed up, I break out the...

Top of my head, possible stuck float. Usually if this happens, gas will leak around the carburetor and out the air cleaner, etc.

honda GVC 160 OHC mower not starting

Okay, when you had the carburetor apart, did you remove and clean the main jet and main nozzle? Float seat look okay? Did you remove the screw and clean the slow speed jet? Just a small piece of debris can cause this. With the cheap price of replacement carburetors, I find it best to replace...

Can't Pull Mower Backwards - HRR216VLA to bearing conversion

Question for those that have dealt with the rear adjuster issue. Model #HRX217HYA quick stump stop

Normally after hitting something hard two things can happen. The first you already mentioned with the flywheel key shearing or somewhat breaking. The other one is what Mparr mentioned about the bent crankshaft. Depending how bad the crankshaft is bent, you might be able to do this to give you...

    HRR216K pulls to one side

Question, what is the parts number for the bronzer bushings. Did you use one or two bushings? Did you just push the bushing into place and leave it or use an apoxy? Do you think say a small house type clamp might hold the dust seal in place or do you think the clamp would slide around on the...

New HRN216 VKA or Used HRR216 VKA

I am looking at a HRR216 version k11 for my daughter or should we skip over this and get a new HRN216. As for the used HRR, it is in excellent shape and the price is very fair. Now I know the HRR series are plagued with the roll back issues, but I am starting to read about a few of the HRN...

    HRR216K pulls to one side

Bearing grease. I am not sure if anyone really has found the true perfect grease. Just figure if it is water and heat resistant we are in the ball park. The main thing is keep debris away and try to, based on mowing, keep a check to ensure the grease has not dried out. All...

    HRR216K pulls to one side

Late reply. It is easier to buy the adjuster with the bushings already inside, but yes replacing just the bushings can be done. Sometimes the old ones will give you fit coming out and new ones sometimes need a little extra effort. If necessary, I use my vise to help seat them.

    Garage Air Compressor

Since a lot of us on this forum probably fix our own lawn mowers or at least do all of the maintenance, I thought I was safe asking opinions about a new air compressor for the garage. My compressor is starting to act up. Now, it is a thirty-year old Craftsman oil less unit that has served me...

    Honda Forum Way Too Quiet

I guess all of our Hondas are running fine or we would have more new posts. So to stimulate conversation I am throwing out a starter. What does everyone think about Briggs and Stratton's new(er) never change oil again technology? To me, it goes against everything I learned about routine oil...

    Wheel Not Touching

Okay, just picked up a new hrr216VKA. Everything looks great but noticed the right front wheel is slightly off the ground. The surface is level and the front wheels are both in the same adjustment position. Is this normal on newer mowers?

    Honda Extended Warranty

It looks like Honda has once again given us the spring promotion. Buy and register your new Honda lawn mower by May 31st and get another year warranty added. Check to see if your model applies. Robert (from Honda) said this would most likely happen and it did. Just another reason to buy a Honda.

    Honda Versus Toro

Hello, just joined the forum to be schooled on lawn mowers. Over the last 40 years, I have been a Craftsman Briggs and Stratton fan. I am now trying to broaden my horizons and looking at the Honda HRR216VKA and the Toro 20382. I would like input to help me decide. Now that I have...
