Thanks for all the help!! With it all tore down and nicely cleaned up I think I'll rebuild it. Won't take much, a gasket set and seals, quick hone, a cylinder head and a valve job on both heads. Thanks Again for the help!!

Boy! Never would have guessed that! The throttle on this one opens all the way, and the coils are fixed in one spot but, they have 2 wires on each coil that go to a small electronic box on one of the shields. So, I'm pretty sure it's a 22 HP. But here is a funny thing, after getting it all tore...

Well after a lot of cleaning I did find one number on the base of the block 24-560-11 but when I try to look it up I keep getting an 18 hp. Is it a universal block with just different bore sizes? At least it's coming as a Kohler number.

Well years ago I would have said Honda or Kawasaki. I had a 4-cylinder continental on a golf course mower that was bullet proof. I'm not a fan of any of the newer brand name engines, but I don't work on them all day long like some on here.

Thanks! I'm going to pull the engine all the way off later this week and turn the pressure washer loose on it. I already have all the covers off of it so I'm not holding much hope on finding anything. The solenoid is about 2 feet away from the starter under the right fender.

Well I've had a couple mowers with Kohler engines, they seem to hold up ok. Not the best engines, but if they scrimp by with something so small. Makes one wonder what other shortcuts they do.

Huh! Thanks for the info. I wonder why they stick with those stickers that come off so easy. Surely couldn't cost that much more for a metal tag. I mean you need all that info even if you want to buy a new engine. Thanks for the reply! Steve

THANKS for the reply! One would think Kohler would have fixed that problem after all these years. I might try calling Country Clipper and see what they say. But it's supposed to be much warmer Thursday and Friday where I live so I might get the pressure washer out to clean the rest of the mower...
