I bought a used Ferris ZTR lawnmower, the guy said it had a 37HP engine, the only label I can fine says Vanguard, no model, no serial number, 37 HP seems awful big. How can I find out what I have actually got?

I have a 37 HP (I think) B&S on my Ferris, fuel pump went out, new pump over $200. Replaced it with electric for around $15, also had to add a regulator for around $15, works good.

I previously had a grasshopper ztr and my brother has one now. Anyway the transmission fluid cost in the neighborhood of $12 a quart. I am very tempted to try Amsoil Synthetic transmission fluid at about half the cost. Has anyone tried this? I have used their products for about everything else.
