Been trying to revive this old tiller.Got the engine going then the gear box right tine axle seal leaked.Alittle struggle to figure out o.d. size of seal. Now go look for anymore leaks and two days later the rear drive seal for pulleys is leaking.Found old parts manual on line but the numbers are typed over eachother. This is why I struggled on the tines drive seal.Anyone know where I can get a seal size for this back seal before tearing into it?Looks much more involved to get the back seal?thanks

okay, i think i found the manual you mentioned and it showed a double lipped seal at the gearbox as PN 40299,
#15 in the parts list, if someonelse could confirm.

That is the tine axle seal that I had just replaced and I bought a 1x1.437 single cause that’s all I could get locally. Need #45 from what I see For rear seal.

Typed that Part number on MTD, 40025, shows it as NLA when i tried to add to cart. Star Tech probably knows what/if it got superceded to

Just wondering how you got the 1.38 size..When I measured for the O.D I got 1.42 roughly before buying the 1.437.

If you look at the seal, somewhere you will find info on what type of seal you have. If no luck, do a google maps search for "bearing" and those shops can either find the part # or else find a seal that fits your tiller. They can find one that fits with just the shaft size and the outer diameter.

Yes that PN is flagged here as NLA.

Just the vendor listed as to size, they not always right or using a different way of measuring the seal.
