Hello all,

Newbie here! Looking forward to contributing to the forum. I am trying to decide between the 2020 timecutter 75740 and 75742 for my next Toro purchase. I have about a half acre lot that is fairly flat in the backyard and on the sides of the house there are a few side hills with probably a 10 to 15 degree slope.

I see the main difference is the engines on the two mowers. The 75740 has the Toro single cylinder 17HP engine. Does anyone on here have the engine? Thoughts on how it holds up

The 75742 has the v-twin 22 commerical toro engine? Wondering if its worth the upgrade or not for my lawn. The 75740 is $2,199 at a toro dealer and the 75742 is $2,499.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks,

RM

I looked close at these before going on with my JD,(mainly because of leaves and fall cleanup) and decided that the 75742 was easily worth the extra few bucks.

rmon77,

Easy decision for me to make , if I were in your shoes, ... the VTwin with the increased horse power means the engine won't have to work as hard to get the job done. It adds up to many more years before you need to rebuild /replace it or the entire mower. Kind of goes along with the old saying, "You can never have Too much truck."

75742, worth it, if you are a veteran, box stores give a 10% discount, but dealer I am certain will match it, go with the dealer, you need them on your side, they are well worth it!

rmon77,
Get the bigger engine. You won't regret it.

I agree with the other posts. The larger engine will serve you well. Over the long haul, it will pay for itself. The resale will be much better also. In my opinion, your property probably does not justify one over the other. I have an old TimeCutter with the Kawasaki engine. It is a workhorse and is almost 14 years old.
