I picked up a "mini" riding mower the other day. (Engine in the center right between rider and steering). I wanted to fix this up as a project (fun). The engine is shot on it.

My question: I have a push mower I'm tempted to use the engine off of. I know you can't/shouldn't run a push mower without the blade, but will putting a pulley in its place accomplish the same thing? Is it the blade weight or weight and size that work as counterbalance?

Thanks for any help, I can't really find an answer online. ** Just realized I mispelled title, sorry about that ***

Yes, the long blade makes up for some of the "weight". It would be easier to just find a good used flywheel off of an engine from a cheap pressure washer. Thanks to cheapo pressure washers, there are a lot of good running engines with cast iron flywheels about. I myself had 3 or 4 laying around last year. Just put up your engine's
model numbers, and between the bunch of us here, we could possibly scrounge up a good used one for you.

Sounds good. I'll track down the info as soon as I check it out. Guess flywheel off shot motor may work too. I'll do some checking.
Adding a pulley for belt (I'll need this) and flywheel wouldn't have an adverse effect would it?

No, adding the pulley won't hurt.

Thanks again for the info. This one may get put on the back burner as it's a "toy" and I've got other stuff to work on that's more urgent.

It has no deck, figured I'd fix it up and still have mower style hood and all, but maybe a flatbed thing. More of just a fund deal, no real need but I like toys. I just think the mini mowers are cool looking.
