Problems switching from bagging to not bagging

Have a new puppy that likes to eat grass so wife got me to buy a bagger for my JD D110 rider. It came with the high lift blades and works great. That's not the problem, the problem is I only want to bag only about 1/2 the lawn in my fenced in backyard and my front lawn. I mow another 1/2 acre that does not need bagging. Tried putting on my mulching hood but the mower just seems to bunch up the grass as I do not think the high lift blade mulch very well. Tried putting regular chute back on but then I cannot get bagger pipe to fit. Ran without the chute today but that is not very safe. Any suggestions as to a fix for my predicament.

Got the problem solved, with the regular chute on you lift the plastic chute up, then there is a metal chute you have to pull forward then it lifts up. I wasn't pulling the metal chute forward so it didn't lift up and with it down the bagger chute would not fit on.
