Lurch

I picked up an older Honda rider, a HT-R3811. When applying the brake to shift into any gear, the mower reacts to releasing the brake with an abrupt, surprising lurch. This does NOT seem normal. "They all do it" someone told me. Is the lurch normal?

The brake & clutch are on the same pedal
If you get under and have a good look there may be an adjustment.
The brake is sudden death as it locks the diff so each wheel turns in opposite directions
So the trick is adjusting the spring so the clutch just engages as the brake dissengages.
A hit & miss operation so give yourself a1/2 day to fiddle with it
