LAWN STRIPING SYSTEM

I am thinking about getting a lawn striping roller for my 21 in. Honda mower. I was thinking that they can be pretty heavy, and I was wondering if that could be bad for your lawn, always having a lot of weight rolling across it, or bad for your mower, pulling all that extra weight. Is it??

I have seen a number of homemade versions. Some I would think are quite heavy and would damage a lawn in dry times of the year. The broom version doesn't seem like it would damage a lawn, but not sure how effective it would be.
