The spicer transmission on the mower is shot internally. Likely a worn axle gear, I've run into this too often. The replacement runs around $150 20001VG3B03. Newer similar models use a much cheaper transmission 20001VL0S00 costing around $45 making it financially feasible to fix these mowers. Has anyone tried one of these retrofits? This mower has a new deck and the engine is in stellar shape. A shame to junk it.
