Honda GCV 160 5.5 hp wont run with filter in will with it out

I have the engine listed above, I've torn the carb down twice now and still can't get it to crank or run with the filter on. With the filter off cranks slowly and runs but with marginal power. I watched the Honda europe video on carb cleaning and the only concern I had with my cleaning is after takeing out the short phillips screw on the top of the carb the area below it had a port that was open coming in from the side but the bottom didn't seem to open up at least not straight down into anything. I blew it out several times used carb cleaner wire, filaments etc. I do know this machine hit something big at some point(slightly bent the crankshaft), could that have partially sheared the flywheel key or disrupted the timing to cause the machine to perform like it does?

Just came across your post,
If you have not already checked the flywheel key.. do it. Just a little timing error can have a big influence on starting... :smile:KennyV
