My dad has a Gravely HD48 ZTR. It starts and runs fine. Can drive all over the yard no problem. When you go to engage blades it starts to spit and sputter and will finally quit running. Doesn't sound like to switch for the blade engagement because it doesn't die right away. Carb problems??? It's got the 27HP Kawasaki engine. He recently adjusted the valves but they weren't off much if any.

Thanks for your help

I would check the blade drive belt thread path. The only reason I say this is because I once threaded my blade belt that I thought was right, but when I engaged the clutch, the motor almost shut down. Right away, I thought that one of the blade bearings locked up, but when I went to look, I found that the belt was caught on a bolt sticking up that was stopping the belt.. With the engine off, I would try to spin the blade to see if they turn easy. It could be a bad blade bearing also.

Good Luck,

Carl,
