I am reposting this in this section because it might be more appropriate here.

Hello all,
I am thinking about buying my first deisel tractor and I just wanted to know more about them. I know basically how they work, but I am very handy with gas engines. So fill me in if you can. Any advice would be appreciated. I just want to know everything about deisels that would be different than gas. (Other than a different fuel)
Thanks,

I have a few lawn tractors and one of them is a Kubota Diesel B4200, It is 12.5 HP 4WD with hydraulics. It uses less fuel than a gas engine but you really don't want it to run out of fuel. They can be a mother to restart. A diesel has a lot of torque. Someone told me to let it idle before you shut it off after working it. Not sure what else to tell you, but I have been very happy with it. It is not a big tractor, but has a lot of features. Rear PTO and mid PTO, 4WD and locking rear end, ROP and 3 point hitch. Hope that helps

I have 2 Kubota diesels both purchased new 30 years ago_One a B8200 Hydrostatic, the other a L2250 geared, both 4 wheel drive. I was wearing out air cooled lawn tractors in 3-4 years cutting 5 acres of grass and other heavy uses. I have well over 1000 hrs on each and have only replaced a Hydraulic pump on the 2250. I'm looking at a new Z turn unit and would not waste a nickle on a air cooled gas engine now. You'll never go back to gas, if you live long enough to wear it out.
I took the ROPS off when my wife almost flipped it end over catching it on a tree limb but they were solid back then. They are hinged now.
