I changed the oil in my exmark and I noticed it's leaking oil. I put synthetic oil in the mower and was wondering if that's why it's leaking. It's not much oil but enough to be annoying and for dirt and grass to stick to the mower. I can't track down the exact leak but it might be coming from the gasket about 2inches up from the base of the engine. I'm not sure what the gasket is called. I was going to pull the engine in the Fall and replace it.

There's also a gasket behind a plate on the side(near the carb) that torn off a bit. It's hard to see the oil since it's so clear but you can see it pooling a bit under the cylinder fins.

Any ideas?

That would the valve chamber gasket PN 11060-2376. Unfortunately it is list as NLA. You can try using RTV or make your own gasket.

The down side of synthetics is hey will leak through places where standard oils won't.
Unless it becomes chronic just watch the oil level .
It is a big problem for old motorcycles .

Yeah, I've heard that before. I'm thinking the tolerances on this engine are a little better but maybe not. Any idea what that big gasket is that goes around engine mounting plate. Not sure how to look up that gasket.

1628790996384.png That's the sump gasket (you could call it an oil pan for simplicity) that's where the engine splits to access the internals.

Thanks. Looks like it's no longer available. Might have to go with rtv.

Check around, you may be able to find some fiber gasket material at your local auto parts store. FelPro makes it. Making gaskets is a lost art.
