I was wondering if I could replace the easy blade system on garden tractor, to something more durable. Thank you

Mower model number from serial number tag would be helpful as then we could see what system is being used. I have converted one quick blade system as it was cheaper to do that then to get the parts for the quick system.

IF the mower has the following system then you need to change out the spindles and install normal blades.

Sorry about this late post but it's a Sears garden tractor Model # 917.98645. It looks like the one I have. Thank you for your help.

Yes it is the same system that I changed out. I had to as the customer bent both blade holders and they are $150 a piece without new blades. It was just cheaper to change over to regular star blades. Even with my labor added the customer's repair was only $240.

The one I converted here was the 917986410. The only difference difference I see is one has greaseable spindles and the other has non-greaseable spindles.

2 blade holders are broke. Do I need a new spindle assembly or just the shaft?

You need for the conversion complete spindles. The housings are shorter on the Quick change system. Here is a side by side comparison with your spindle on the left. Note right spindle is the greaseable version but non greaseable is the same except no grease zerk. The addional length make for the lack of the blade adapter.

Hi, I am also interested in replacing spindles on my Craftsman 917.986450, as they discontinued the EZ change mulching blades (plus the design overall was just bad). How would I know what spindles to order?

Thanks in advance for your help
