I'm still not getting something. New rollers, adjusted rod. It pulls for about 15' then stops pulling. Push it a bit and it pulls briefly, then stops again. Is there a transmission that could be slipping? I am lost.
Thanks

If the rollers stop turning it is probably the gears in the transmission. Sorry to say if this is the cast very, very expensive to repair.

Ok it is not the brass gear on the inside of the pto so your machine is not shot. You have the older style capstan connector with bushings instead of the later style connector with the springing two square blocks. Anyways 683129 is the part number you need to get you back in business. good luck easy fix.

You may have a drive shaft issue. There is a drive shaft from the engine to the drive roller shaft. The original drive shafts were mad from a round metal tube squared on each end that held aa nylon square busing. The bushing sometimes goes bad and the square tube rounds out at the end. Later models use a square shaft and a square metal coupling on each end that has a spring between them to keep them in the coupled position. These can also wear out. It could also be gears that couple the two shafts together. The first thing to look for is does the drive rollers continue to turn when the mower does not go. My bet is the drive shaft from the engine to the trans.

I have several of the newer style drive shafts.

Looking at the parts diagram, do I need the bushings also?
Thanks

Also, how do I remove the drive shaft? Looking at the online manual you have to remove the engine, is that right?

No, you don't have to remove the engine. According to my Lawn-Boy mechanic's handbook, you have to remove the capstan covers, capstans (they are secured with rolled pins, drive them out), and capstan bearing sleeves (should slide out). Remove the bolt on the bottom of the deck to remove the transmission. Mark the capstan axle as it is hardened where it connects to the trans, so mark it left and right to make sure you reassemble correctly.

Hey Jeff,
I'm down to the gear box and removed the snap ring at the axle where it goes into the gear box, but the axle doe not come out. What am I missing?
