hydro gearbox

i have an mtd tractor with hydro gearbox it tend to make this weird noise especially when you accelerate hard if a (mower can acellerate)(more pushing the pedal streigh down from standstill) and towing when i looked there is a mini tank with fluid in and it looks rarther low. Does anyone know weather you need to change hydro gearbox fluid ? if so what do you need to use many thanks
