The blades stopped while mowing. The electric PTO clutch failed, bearings exposed, black melted plastic, and really hot! John Deere wants $350 for the part, $250 on ebay, jeesh! Can someone tell me if the R&R of the part is a DIY project? What are the procedures please?

I can''t afford John Deere's parts plus labor!

Thanks,

Okay, the wire is disconnected and the big retaining bolt is out. Someone please tell me how to get this darn PTO clutch off!

Thanks in advance!

drop the cluch off your unit and see what is going on with it. unplug it 3 to 4 bolts and it's off. then you can see what is up. might get one off ebay some mowers use the same cluch also. i have a 420 bought a service manual off ebay on a CD that help me a lot. if your cluch has a bad bearing you might replace just that.
