At 8:10 tonight, Jan 26th, a tow boat struck the Eggner's Ferry Bridge. This bridge is part of the Hwy 68/80 corridor that crosses the Kentucky Lake, aka the Tennessee River. The center section of the bridge has collapsed and is resting on top of the tow boat. Luckily the pilot reported seeing no cars on the bridge at the time of the collision.

If any of you are heading into this area in the future and plan on using this bridge, find another route.

I've seen pictures from this morning, it wasn't a tow boat at all. A cargo ship named Delta Mariner carrying aerospace equipment went into the wrong lane to go under the bridge. That lane was too short and obviously the ship hit it. Two sections of the bridge are completely removed from the structure with one of them literally draped across the bow of the ship. There was one car exiting the bridge and another entering the bridge when the collision ocurred. Luckily for them they were 15 to 20 seconds behind or ahead of their locations.

The boys and I decided to go out and take a look at the carnage from last nights little event. Only one section collapsed instead of the two that was reported. You can see it draped over the front of the ship.
