was wondering if any members can help with this condition. 15 year old Scag Tiger cub runs for 5-8 seconds then shuts down. Installed new plugs and fuel filter. still have issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Engine is Kohler Command 20.

Most likely a fuel delivery issue.
If You have any carburetor cleaner, starting fluid, or you can use gasoline,
Spray it into the carburetor, you should be able to access the venturi behind the air filter, if starts by spraying it into the carb then dies then you most likely have a clogged main jet, so either clean, rebuild or replace carb.

I should add, see if you can keep it running with gasoline or parts cleaner.
If it stops once you stop spraying most likely a fuel issue.

disconnected the fuel solenoid and removed pin- reinstalled solenoid and motor ran fine-is there any danger to let the mower to continue to run this way- should i just replace with new fuel solenoid ?

I don't know if there is any danger in letting it run that way...
You can replace it if you want

Sounds like the solenoid is getting voltage while cranking, and voltage cuts off when the key returns to the run position.
Post your mower's model numbers off of the tag so we can look at the electrical diagram.
