Good evening folks. Hope that you all are doing well.

I am considering purchasing a riding lawn mower for mowing my relatively flat yard (bit less than 1 acre), aerating and de-thatching and some hauling.

I am looking for something reliable that will last for a good number of years and am leaning towards a John Deere (JD).

I'd like to spend less than $ 5 k (preferably around $3.5 k) and would be perfectly happy with a good used mower if that mower were more reliable, durable and less costly than the JD x5 and x7 models.

Thanks in advance for any help, assistance and advice.

One suggestion I'd make is look under the back end, if a hydrostatic drive, look for a drain plug and oil filter on the transmission. Lots of cheap throw away junk out there these days, 3 - 400 hours and you're looking at $1000 for a new transmission install.

Spend the money & get a good one even if that means using finance .
You will be way way way better in the long run.
Down here when I get that question the answer is anything under $ 10,000 ( AUD ) just pick the colour your wife likes.
