The ground speed and blade speed have both decreased on my mower ... it began to bog down so I replaced the fuel pump..... that helped a little ... but by comparing the hour meter it is taking one third longer to cut grass. this has 22 horse kawasaki and about 170 hours .... it has never had a belt change but all the other scheduled maintenane is up to date ..... the air filter needs changed badly ... could that keep bogging it down?

Absolutely, also remove blower housing, top of engine, & clean by hand with shop vac engine cooling fins etc. Debris will build up between cooling fins & i use a piece of coat hanger wire to loosen it up then use shop vac. Make sure engine is cold. Engine will breathe & run cooler with new air filter & a good cleaning. The air filter on any engine is possibly the most overlooked & least expensive parts to replace.
