Battery hookup question

I have older Honda 215 sma self propelled electric start commercial mower probably 1988 or early 90 s steel deck
fixed it all up got it running great got anew battery ....the old battery is sealed has two leads black and white leading to a connecter plug I cant see terminals there sealed under cover
gonna hook up new battery
my question is which is the hot (positive) wire
black or white

A multimeter will show. Put leads on battery terminals. 12.5v means positive lead on positive battery terminal. -12.5v means positive lead on negative battery terminal.

Good you got it fixed.
If anyone needs a multimeter, the Harbor Freight one (free with coupon) does fine for voltage, resistance, continuity. It does lack amperage draw measurement over 5 amps but I rarely need that.
