Here is a off wall question. Is all the pullies on a john deer riding mower supposed to be straight -in- line?
The idler pully seams to be crooked and the belt keeps jumping off but I'm not sure that it is supposed to be at a slight angle.
Any thoughts? thanks.

Depends upon what you mean by in line.
All of the axels must be parallel to each other but the actual heights can be a little different which is one reason why they use belts.
A pulley that is tilted will however cause the belt to jump off
There is a lot less tollerance to tilt than there is to height mismatches.
On a manual deck the tensioning arm hole flogs out oval which allows the pulley to tilt and can be the reason for throwing belts.
The owners manual tells you to oil it daily and techs lube it with dry spray grease but owners never touch it till they have spend $ 300 on belts in a single season.
