LT1042 Will Not Turn Over

Hello. I recently purchased an LT1042 (model 13BX11CG712) from a guy who could not get it to start. Once I got the mower, I found that he had cut the end connectors off the battery cables and had the wires taped on to the battery post along with a ground wire (picture). I replaced the cable connectors but I do not know where the ground wire is actually supposed to connect. I can tell that he replaced the solenoid but there are only three wires going to the solenoid, should it be four? After repairing the battery cables, when I switch the mower on, I get a click which I believe is the carburetor solenoid, and the dash indicator shows a oil light and momentary batt light, that then goes out and indicates 12.4 volts. I never get an indication for the PTO or parking brake. So, before I can go any further, can anyone tell me where the green ground wire is supposed to connect and if there are supposed to be 3 or 4 wires connected on the starter solenoid. I have the wiring diagrams but I am not very good at reading electrical diagrams. Thanks for any help you can give me.

you can attach ground wire to negative side of battery, frame, chassis, anything metal. just loosen a bolt & nut from frame etc. attach wire to bolt reinstall nut & tighten securely. if you have a 12 volt test light you can attach your alligator clip to your ground then touch positive battery cable post with test light & if it lights up you have a good ground. check fuse, remove battery take to auto parts store for load test at no cost to you.

on the other hand if green wire has a connector on end of wire it has a particular place to go, take your time looking, let us know how it goes, thanks.

There is no connector on the end. I am pretty sure this is a wire he cut the connector off. I don't know if it was originally connected to the frame or solenoid or somewhere else, but I can tell from the diagrams that it wasn't originally connected to the battery like the guy had it.

Solenoids come in 2 typed
Case grounded ( 3 posts )
and
case insulated, ( 4 posts )

This is because a lot of mowers use a safety switch(s) to activate or prevent activation of the starter solenoid.
The solenoid can be controlled from the + side or - side or both sides.

SO one of those tabs must be grounded.
Does not matter which one.
