I replaced the carb on the engine with #791230 which solved the problem of white exhaust smoke. Now the engine pops at higher RPM's and am thinking that I got a bad carb.
The valve backlash has been set, compression is 140 lbs in both cylinders, coil gaps set, fuel filter replaced, spark plugs replaced and fresh fuel. Unfortunately the only adjustment on these carbs is the idle speed (bummer). I believe that the hour meter is around 5200. Any suggestions on a direction to take would be appreciated.
Thanks

When you say popping is it coming out of exhaust or carb?

White smoke from exhaust generally means blown head gasket. I do not associate white smoke with carb.
