132-642f515 12.5hp Briggs mastercraft 38in deck

Hi, I just acquired this mower for a steal given the shape it's in.

So from what I gather, this has a variable pulley drive system. My current gripe is that even in first gear, it's too fast when mowing. Tried 5th and almost raised the front end. How can I slow this thing down ?
