Took some pics of my machines today. Thought I'd share.

They include a:

1) 1972 model 3057 economy 18" brick top (before-dirty......and after-clean)
2) 1965 model 7215 21"
3) 2005 model 22243 (I think) 21" with a Briggs
4) 1962 model 7251 21" brick top

I have 2 more that are on with my landscape crew, a steel deck 21" 4.75 HP and an aluminum deck 21" 4.5 HP, don't know the model #'s, have to look at the machines, but they get the job done.

Thanks for posting the photos. I would love to get a LB from the 1960s.

Have you had any of those for a long time?

I even like the Briggs-powered mower. The big orange tank gives it a serious look.

The commercial one with the Briggs I bought new in 05'. Other than the motor, it is in perfect shape. It needs a short block ($130) as it blows a lot of smoke and makes a lot of noise, but until the 2 two on my landscape crew crap out, it will be waiting in the garage.

The 72' model I found on Craigslist last week for $50. It currently doesn't run, but it does have compression, but no spark. This model is very interesting as it has an 18" deck, and they called it an economy version. It has no option for a flat or a chute, the deck is one solid piece. The wheel adjusters are manual, and by that I mean you have to remove the nut and bolt on the wheel to adjust the height. But I want to do a brick top restoration, and since this deck is cracked in the front I bought a clean 19" deck on eBay that I will use for a restoration. If the motor doesn't run right when I get it running, I will buy a piston and ring set and whatever else it needs to make it run top notch. Those parts are fairly cheap anyway.

The 65' model I bought about a month ago (I just started this collection hobby recently). It has compression but does not run. The deck on that has a couple of decent size holes, so either I find another deck for that or it will be a beater in the yard once I get it running.

The 62' I also bought about a month ago, and it runs like a top. It starts on the 1st or second pull every time, and at 3 1/2 HP, it has no problem cutting through thick grass.

For collection purposes, I'm only interested in the models pre-1978. I would love to have a 1975-1977 commercial brick top as that was the first mower I ever owned (bought it used for $60 back in 1977). I used that machine to cut houses in the neighborhood and made a pretty penny doing it for an 11 year old. Always had more money in my pocket as a kid than my friends, thanks to that LB. So, that's what I'm looking for now, and then I think I will stop for a while. Only so much room in the shed.

Dear Sir: would you know how to help me with a Lawnboy Garden tractor LT 13 H. Model 81191? The steel cable broke that engages and disengages the blade in the engage position. I replaced the cable but how do I get the pulleys and springs to go to disengage point so that I can start the mower?

Russ, I cannot answer that. I don't know anything about LB sit down machines. The sit down machines I use are Walkers and my question to you would be if the cable broke, and you replaced it, shouldn't the pulleys engage and disengage as they did before? When I cannot fix basic things, I give up and go to my shop and bite the bullet and pay to repair it.

Sorry I couldn't be of help. Maybe someone in this forum can chime in.

It's a shame you didn't keep that first commercial brick top. I'll bet it would still be running great.

I have good memories of getting into the mowing business at about age 12 or 13. I had enough money to buy a good used car as soon as I turned 16. That was a big deal at the time.

That first mower I bought was just a Briggs engine on a steel deck but I used it a lot -- I definitely got my money's worth out of that. The deck eventually rusted and cracked where the wheels mount.

I've also become more selective in the mowers I'll buy. I've got six Lawn-Boys (four of which run) and a two-stroke Suzuki-powered Toro -- in addition to some four-stroke mowers. So it's not like I really need another mower.
