Starter will not work and when manually trying to turn it only turns half a turn and stops. ANY IDEAS why?

Remove the spark plug(s) to determine if the piston(s) is (are ) moving during that half turn rotation.

Yep do what senior citizen said,
could also be a push rod came off the rocker arm.
