put on the mower blade belt on my craftsman Lt 1000 and it will not tighten up. The cable clutch is new. Got the correct belt a 144959 v belt. The belt matched the old belt. Any ideas what is wrong ? This is a 16Hp model # CV46OS listed on motor and my manual shows model 917.272066.

be sure you routed it correctly, it should come from the crankshaft pulley, around the smaller idler (blade engage pulley) pulley, around the blade spindle pulley, across to the other spindle pulley around another idler pulley and back to the crankshaft pulley.
have someone work the engage lever (mower off) and see what is isn't moving.
