This is a Model 135-292-0158-01, 5 hp B & S horizontal shaft motor.
This motor has a very simple throttle linkage but I can not figure it out.
This motor is about 25 years old and on a Troy-Bilt tiller that has seen
very little use. I have the linkage installed correctly, I think. but there is 1
small spring that should hold the governor arm down until the throttle is opened.
Some details, the choke is mounted on the carb and the throttle is mounted
on the tiller handles. The spring should hold the governor arm down until
the throttle lessens the tension on the spring and that allows the governor arm to rise
and increase the engine speed. My question is, how does that spring attach to the
throttle slide and to the governor arm?? Any way I install it does not work and the spring
usually falls off. The motor starts and runs with no problem except the throttle.

The governor spring pulls the throttle into the wide open position, once the engine starts the governor tries to close it. It sounds like you have the spring incorrectly installed.

That is the question, how to install the spring?? I found a video on you tube that almost explained it.
I have pushed it aside until I get more info. I was given this tiller years ago. Now I know why, it has
never ran right.

Hello Old Okie

but it could just as well be that the engine is excellent and even then someone did not quite know how to mount this spring.
This could have the advantage for you that the machine has worked much less than would be expected according to their age.

Under this link with your number I found a user manual: https://www.briggsandstratton.com/na/en_us/search.html?searchrequested=135292-0158-01

Now that I knew what kind of engine that is, I found a workshop manual, it says exactly how to do it.

Good luck,
greetings
Franz

Hello Franz, from Okarche, OK, a German Catholic town.

I am unable to find the shop manual. Do you have a direct link to it??
You are right, the tiller has seen very little use because it did not run right.
When I have used it the engine speed was erratic and hard to control.
I am hoping for better days ahead.

Hello Okie

that must have seemed weird that I did not just write down the link or posted the manual, but I was not sure if copyrights and the rules of the forum would allow it ...

But what I certainly can do is to point out a thread of this forum, where there is a link to a page ... there you go to the top level and look under "Literature" ...

https://www.lawnmowerforum.com/showthread.php/54326-406577-0139-Possible-Blown-Head-Gasket

Say, if you found it, please, or if you have trouble.

As for the erratic tiller: you already have redone the carb, have you?

Good luck,
greetings
Franz

I found the thread and the link to the manuals.
The tiller motor starts and runs fine but the throttle
does not speed up the motor, I have to push the throttle
plate with my finger. I have seen a drawing that may help also.
Thanks for the help, have a good day.

Still have not solved this....can any one post a photo or a copy from a manual
that may help me fix this problem?? This should be simple for some one who knows
what they are doing but not for me. 2 &1/2 inches of rain today, I will not need the
tiller for a while. I have seen a lot of videos but no help there.
