My gas straight shaft trimmer is 4 or 5 years old and wondering if I should pull the head apart and lube or relube? What is actually inside the angled head on these? It does seem to get real warm after a while. Motor is still running strong, original carb even. Standard issue Craftsman 2 stroke model. Thanks.

Mine & most others have an approx 1/2" bolt in the side of the head, remove it, it's for adding a small bit of grease, I do mine once a year. 1 shot of grease from my hand pump grease gun. Then replace that bolt.

Yours should have it too. Inside is like a pinion gear on the shaft & like ring gear for the head. (kinda like auto rear end)... This is where more is not better, just a small amount of something like grade 2 grease..

Mine is greased well & after a good work out is gets pretty warm also, this is normal.
