My Tecumseh H35-45772Z carburetor has a fuel line inlet and a 2nd hose that connects back to the engine. What is the 2nd hose for?

See attached photo of the carburetor. Most carbs do not have this 2nd hose but a few do. My part number for the carb is #640134.

Thanks. Why don't all small engine carburetors have these ports? I'm guessing that some engines do not terminate the breather hose back to the carburetor or even have these. Is this a case of old technology vs new or just design? (I was going to replace the old existing carburetor with similar newer but newer carb does not have the crankcase breather fitting. See attachment. Can I the breather hose vent to the air instead of the carb?).

Older engines simply vent to the atmosphere . . .

Hello,

Believe it or not, emission controls have hit small engines too. We can't have too large a carbon footprint, can we,,,LOL.

Regards
