I have a Troy Bilt Pony riding mower. It dies after about 10min of use. After that, it will not turn over. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the gas lines to make sure nothing was stopping fuel from getting to the engine. Oil level is good and was just recently changed. Also replaced the spark plug. After it sits awhile it will turn over but goes right back to dying after about 10min of running.

The instant it stops pop a little starting fluid / fuel down the carb & crank.
If the engine fires right up you have a fuel problem
If it just backfires you have a valve problem
If nothing happens you have a dud coil.

Had a similar issue with my craftsman mower. Ended up being the breather hole in the gas cap was clogged. It caused vapor lock and would cut off and not restart. I replaced the gas cap and never had another issue

Just be aware that starting in 2012 the fuel caps are no longer vented, and use a separate tube that either connects to the carb intake or to a charcoal canister.

Alright will have to try that tomorrow. Thank you

Update: Tried what you said. Tested it a few times and the engine would fire right back up but on one of the attempts, it did backfire. Guessing I need a new carb?
