border around sidewalk

I walked over to my neighbor's the other day when they were on vacation and noticed they recently put those scalloped bricks between their sidewalk and flower bed. My mulch/flower bed abuts my sidewalk. Do you have any other ideas of things you could use to put up a border?

I got that black plastic strip around the edge of my wife's flower beds. It works enough. I put it there hoping it would hold the mulch in place and it does a pretty good job.
