I was set on buying cordless to replace my old Toro Recycler.

My fear of lithium fires has faded, but every time I drill down
at many sources, including buyer feedback, there's substantial
info that makes me want a new gas machine.

I'm willing to spend up to 750us, but even the best picks don't seem
to mow/mulch/bag well with 6" grass that might be damp (just 1/8 acre).
If they can, then the batteries seem to fade after a year or two.

I'm just about ready to buy gas, but have not yet found one I like.

yeah, you're right at the edge and, given the actual cutting path (not 'deck') width of cordless electrics, you probably should stay with gas.

no sign of my lithium batteries fading in 6+ years however.

My brain fart: I have 1/8 acre, not 1/3.
My main concern is reports that cordless struggles
and tends to leave clumps of grass that turn brown.
I read somewhere that Kobalt does better with that.

If you are willing to spend that much what stops you from getting the Ego 56 volt 7.5 aH mower? It claims to have the power of a gas engine and up to 60 minutes of run time. With a 1/8 acre lot this would suffice. The downside of the electric mowers is that they typically don't bag well. As for 6" tall damp grass, you are asking for any and every mower to disappoint you! If you do go gas get something this a lot of power, a high lift blade and side discharge capabilities.

Oh, yeah, cordless will work for you - even corded if you don't have trees/obstacles. I own 2 different GW mowers and neither really leave 'clumps' - they seem to mulch about as well as my old Bolens gasser. I suppose wetter conditions could lead to clumps but, the same might be true for a gas mower....

head over to the electric forum https://www.lawnmowerforum.com/forumdisplay.php/50-Electric-amp-Battery-Powered-Equipment and see what mowermike and others have to say. My new GW 21" stores upright which is nice. You want to investigate the height adjustment too.

(I have .39 acres, but, several battery packs, since I've expanded my collection to include several non-mower 40v tools)

With such a small yard, consider a robotic mower.
You will need to mow low with a conventional mower first then the robot will keep the grass well cut for the rest of the season.

:welcome:

Welcome to the forum!

I know it can be a hard choice. We've been through a small variety over the years over at my house.

I'm going to move this thread over to our mower and equipment buying section.
