Check the battery voltage when the engine is cranking.
If it drops radically and you have a relay in the ignition circuit then the relay could be tripping out when the voltage drops.

Thanks. There is a relay next to fuse block. Not sure what it's for. I'll check that out.

Lots of mowers use a relay to switch the safety circuits from start mode to run mode.
If you are getting a big voltage drop when cranking that relay could drop out.
