Craftsman 42" mower

Hello,
I'm trying to do a deck rebuild on an older Craftsman mower and avoid buying a new mower altogether. I would like to buy the parts online but can't find any info about the mower. The model # on the sticker says it's a 944.608040. I think I can use parts listed in the 944.609040 manual. I'm not very adept at buying parts online and am wondering, is there a resource online that helps cross reference parts? Or even better, are all Craftsman/AYP 42" decks of a certain age more or less the same?

Model years 1992-1999 uses same deck. Your old deck is Sears part no. 164961, the same as now Sears part no. 176031 & available on line at a fair price.
Your mower model no. shows up as Sears Of Canada, which is correct as you are located in Canada.
