I made a video. Sounds baffley? Previous owner said it ran good when parked last fall. Started it a couple days ago and sounds like this. No oil leaks. Oil looks clean. No metallic clicking or ticking.... Thoughts?

What do you mean by "blow up" ?

Sounds like it's running rich.

I wear hearing aids so its hard to tell. Maybe its mild backfiring I hear...? Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Lol.

Does that have a hand choke for starting? Try closing it some and see if the engine runs worse or better. Could be something bent the choke cable?

Take off the valve cover and take a peek at things. Watch the rocker arm action while turning the engine over by hand. look for sticking valve and see if the valves both move @ the same depth when engaged.

Yank the spark plug also, & when you rotate it, hold your thumb over the hole.

PS: Check the air filter. Doesn't sound very robust,..

Have any rodents made a nest in the exhaust ?

Today I pulled the carb and it was spotless. 8 found the spring disconnected and hooked it back up and it made no difference.

I pulled the valve cover and found that the top valve had a half inch or more of gap and the cup was laying at the bottom of head. The adjustment bolt is still tight so I wonder if the engine has internal damage? I'll adjust the valves tomorrow. I pulled the rod and it is straight and the rocker moves as it should when I turn the engine by hand and hold the rocker in place.
