That seems rather premature, so don't call it dead yet. There are some things to do before making that declaration. I'm not the one to here to best assist you, but there are those here who are and I'm sure they'll be along within the next day or so. They'll want the tag information for the mower itself and from the transmission. Mower model and serial numbers are often under the seat. They should be able to tell you where the transmission tag is.

The trans is belt driven. It could be a problem with the belt, pulleys or spring(s). But please describe what it's doing. Did it just stop working suddenly or has it progressively failed? How does it sound? Can you push the mower easily when it's off and the parking brake is released.

That should get us started and help the mechanics here help you.

Park it on a reasonable hill without the brake on
then start pulling the mower backwards,
If the tranny is good you should feel strong resistance to rolling.
If it starts rolling easily & gets a faster quickly, then the tranny is shot.

My test is my tilting trailer.
If the mower rolls strait off the tranny is shot.
If I have to drag it off then the tranny is good.
Very rare for one to pack it in at those hours.

And the tranny is a K 46, marked NLA from most suppliers.

Thanks Guys. My wife first complained that mower would runaway on downhill grades. I checked the belt seemed tight enough. She used the a few more times then trans started serious grinding noises. I had another look at it and tried mowing with it myself , sounded bad and there was some oil on right side of trans near shift lever. This was last fall near end of mowing season finished season with our old backup mower. We were under the impression that the transaxel was covered by our warranty agreement but we were wrong trans only has 90 day warranty. so its left to me to replace it. at my expense. I worry about replaceing unit with same model will not last beyond 100 hours. Thanks Jim

I didn't know Husqvarna used the Tuff Torq hydro, thought they were better than that. Probably a K46 unit, replacements cost some over $700. 90 day warranty is really a shock, real poor service. Sounds to me like the hydraulic motor to differential engagement sliding sleeve is stripped. This allows you to move the mower by hand by pulling a lever that disconnects the drive, sometimes it doesn't get fully engaged and gets damaged to ultimate failure at some point.

There are 5 specialist mower transmission repair shops down here so there must be thousands in a market like the USA
I get compete trannise & all my tranny parts from Mulligans ( google them ).
And believe it or not even with postage from the USA they get here faster & cheaper than buying them direct from Tuff Torques local distributor.
Does sound like your trans is shot

IF.... you decide to go for a replacement trans., you can check here every so often, they are reputable Co. several members have bought from here with satifaction, me among them, also there is usually a fair amount on EVIL-bay.. be careful at that one, and always check the Farm & Garden section of Craigs List in & around your counties, also check in their General & Household sections, people post in several categories..... Best of Luck & patience ........

should be a tag /sticker on your Trans. ITSELF... SIMILAR to these ...

Thanks everyone, sorry I took so long in replying. I did my home work scored the internet for info and replacment prices it was going to cost around 500 dollars US to replace hydro with OEM unit. After giving much thought to the area and grades that we have to mow I decided to convert to Peerless six speed manual transaxle I know you guys will think I am nuts. But think conversion is not that farfetched most of the parts are the already present just have to modify slightly, have to add a jack shaft to transfer motion of side shift to left side of machine. there are holes already in frame for that purpose and fabricate a double pully clutch assembly. the cost will be around 100 dollars US as I have the transaxle and most parts on hand. I know this will not be a easy task. I just can't see spending that kind of money new unit that may not last one mowing season. By the way I'm 68 years old and not a newbie to this sorta work Thanks and wish me luck Jim

Don't think you are nuts at all.
Always prefferred manual transmissions.
The loan mowers are all Cox and they have cone clutch transmissions.
Good for around 3000 hours & $ 300 for a new cone replacement when the old one wears out.

My main mowers all run peerless trannys and they are all from the 60's and still working perfectly.
Find a hydro box that old that still functions.

Converting to a VAri drive pulley system would be an easier option ( not as good of course ) but a lot easier to do as the frame of you mower is common to a lot of other mowers , JD & Craftsman that run vari drives.
