Lt2000 cranking but no spark

Hello, it's the time of year where I finally get around to starting up the mower to do to first cut of the year. However, when I tried to start my mower it was cranking but not giving spark. I just bought a brand-new battery and sparkplug. So far the only way I have been able to start it is to have a battery charger hooked up to the battery while starting. Once it starts it runs fine. I have the 17.5hp intek. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
