But if it is from 1965 it would have used a side valve engine.
A lot of 60's era mowers get repowered down here and the killer is the length of the engine.
For one locally made brand also the height of the cylinder as it has steering linkages that run under the cylinder.
So go to Small Engine Warehouse or Small Engine Suppliers or Repower.
All of their web sites have a direct link to engine dimensions, a lot easier than going through the Briggs web page.
On a lot of the really short mowers OHV engines have to go in sideways or even backwards to get them to fit.
The engine does not care which way it goes in , but backwards makes it hard to set the valve lashes.
Sideways can foul on deck height & PTO levers.
