Just got this unit and was wondering how to fnd the date of manufacture. Also 1 push rod was bent and I am wondering what the valve clearance should be

Welcome fellow Canuck! The valve clearance is .005"-.007" on both. I don't know how to read their serial numbers. I wanted to rebuild one on my HR215 mower but could not source gaskets. GX140 gaskets are readily available, go figure.

check the aftermarket suppliers, Stens, Rotary, Oregon & Prime Line.
From memory Prime line ran the widest range of Honda gasket kits.
Unfortunately they pulled out of OZ a while back & I tossed their catalogue.

Some of the HR214 engine gaskets have the same part # as for the HR215. Go to https://peparts.honda.com/powerequipment#/browse to get part #'s and then go to boats.net to get prices (and order) these parts.

Also, I have an HRC215 with the same GXV140 engine, and the valve clearance specs are .006" (in) and .008" (exh) as per the service manual.

these folks should have gasket kits readily available as well as parts, good prices, ship fast to your door.

just checked my shop manual, engine cold standard valve clearance; intake 0.006 exhaust 0.008 HONDA engine GXV140
