While mowing, the blades stopped working. I disconnected the clutch power connector, tested, and get 12v with the mower on and switch pulled up. I also noted the belt on the clutch was falling off which led me to inspect the deck. There, I found the idler arm loose as the bolt that holds it to the deck had snapped. So what happened? I obviously have to replace that bolt but is the clutch gone? I do not see it move when I engage the switch but I feel like I hear a slight clunk (if that means anything). I´m no mechanic so any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Before you freak out. Fix it and put it all back together and test to see if it is broken

Ok. So... will the clutch not engage with the belt off?

Was the engine running when you heard it click?

Yes. Pulling the blade switch up with key in second position does nothing. With the engine running, when I pull the switch up I do hear or feel a slight clunk for a moment.

You can test the clutch by putting 12v plus ground to the wires coming from the clutch. If it is working you will hear it.

ok. I put 12v to the clutch and the silver ring right above that bottom pulley clicks and pulls upward slightly. Does that mean the clutch is ok and I just need to reattach the idler arm and route the belt properly? Why wouldnt the pully below the clutch spin previously with the motor running? Just curious.

Also they dont sell that bolt any longer but now want you to purchase a kit. The part is 110-6897. Do you know of an alternate Toro bolt that would work or could I find a workable match at Home Depot possibly?

I am hoping your clutch will work as just having the belt go lose would not damage the clutch.

You need to purchase the kit as it changes a lot of things. The bolt that broke would be a lucky piece of chance to find a shoulder bolt that is an exact fit. It would need to be a schedule 8 bolt.
