I purchased a HRR216VXA with a bad transmission for $50. Overall it was in great shape and well taken care of by the original owner. The transmission clutch arm was hitting the transmission so per Honda it should be replaced.
Instead of replacing I opened up the transmission and installed a shim (illustrated, sorry no photo) which made up for the wear. I had to grind a bit off the shim which was just somethign I had in my parts bin. Time will tell but for now it runs great and can pull a heavy bag up a hill.
